The Center was established within the School of Art History in the year 2000.
The Center works in close cooperation with the Institute for Oriental Studies (the Russian Academy of Sciences), Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the State Museum of Oriental Art, Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University for the Humanities, the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology (Cairo), the Universities of Cairo and Helwan, the Egyptian-Russian University (Cairo). The Center is actively supported by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Cairo.
The Center maintains contacts with various foreign universities: Sapienza (Italy), the University of Montpellier (France), the Academy of Orleans (France), the University of Como (Italy).
The faculty of the Center take part in major international congresses of Egyptologists and Oriental Study scholars; their works are regularly published in Russia and abroad. The student pool of the Center is supplied by the freshmen body of the School Art History. The Center has a graduate school.
The Center provides both free and fee-based education.
The cultural and educational activities of the Center are carried out with the support of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Russian Federation. For instance, “The Days of Egypt in the RSUH” became a new step in the development of active dialogue, scientific and educational contacts of the RSUH and the Universities of Cairo and Helwan. These events took place with the personal participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt in Moscow Dr. Rauf Saad, who warmly greeted all the participants of the scientific event. The activities of the Center in Egypt are coordinated with the Center of Science and Culture at Cairo and Alexandria of the Russian Foreign Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
